Na noite desta segunda-feira (1) ocorreu o Billboard Music Awards, premiação musical que premia os artistas, álbuns e canções com melhor desempenho nas paradas. O evento foi apresentado pela cantora Kelly Clarkson que fez um medley com canções dos principais indicados do ano. A premiação foi aberta por uma performance da música “Me!” com Taylor Swift e Brendon Urie.
O destaque da noite foi Mariah Carey, que foi consagrada como ícone, ela ainda performou alguns dos seus maiores hits, incluindo “Hero” e “We Belong Together”, ao receber o prêmio de ícone ela disse “Ícone? Eu realmente não me enxergo desta maneira, eu comecei a fazer música da necessidade de encontrar uma maneira de sobreviver e me expressar. E eu só queria criar algo para que eu pudesse me sentir digna por existir.”. Outro destaque ficou pela banda Imagine Dragons, que aproveitou o momento em que ganhou o prêmio de “Top Artista de Rock” e afirmou que é preciso fazer algo sobre a terapia da dita “cura gay” que levam milhares de jovens a depressão e em alguns casos ao suicídio.
